Cockroaches in Oregon

Are roaches invading your home or business? Don’t let these pests take over – turn to the trusted pest control experts at Good Earth Pest Company.

Roaches can be a common problem in Oregon throughout all four seasons. Two typical species found in our area include the German cockroach and Oriental cockroach. These pests can not only be unsightly and unpleasant to deal with, but they can also pose health risks to you and your family or customers.

Cockroaches have existed for more than 200 million years and there are believed to be over 4,000 species. They can exist virtually anywhere humans live, they’re great travelers! They are omnivores and will eat anything from human food to paper to plants to even leather. If they run out of other food and have nothing else to eat, then they’ll even start eating each other. They are extremely resilient creatures and have adapted with incredible survival skills.

Most cockroaches are nocturnal and prefer to come out when it’s dark and quiet. They enjoy warm places within a home and search out the cracks and crevices near a food source. Most commonly, they will be first discovered in the kitchen or bathrooms of a home.

Are there cockroaches in Oregon?

We get this question a lot actually, and yes there are cockroaches in Oregon. Believe it or not, we have a couple of different species that we see regularly.

The German Cockroach is the most common species we see, but occasionally we also get the American Cockroach and the Oriental Cockroach.

How do I get rid of cockroaches?

While we understand that DIY pest control solutions can be tempting, it’s important to understand the risks and limitations involved in treating a roach infestation. Cockroaches can be notoriously difficult to eliminate, and attempting to do so on your own can lead to further infestations and potential health risks.

A proper cockroach control program should consist of:

  • Sanitation. Get things as clean as possible. Remove clutter and food, and wipe down surfaces.
  • Inspection. Identify where the problem is and focus there.
  • Treatment. Good Earth offers a service that is low impact and will produce great results.
  • Prevention. Heavy infestations may take additional follow-up visits to keep future problems from occurring.
If you suspect you have a roach problem, save a sample of the bug in question and we will come to take a look. Proper identification of an insect problem is the first key to dealing with it appropriately and efficiently.

At Good Earth Pest Company, we take pride in our personal, friendly, and conscientious service. We understand that dealing with cockroach problems can be stressful and disruptive to your daily life. That’s why we strive to make the pest control process as easy and hassle-free as possible, while still delivering exceptional results. Our tagline, “Hard on Bugs, Soft on You,” encapsulates our commitment to effective pest control that doesn’t compromise your comfort or safety.

The German Cockroach is by far the most common of the cockroaches here in Oregon. This species is distributed worldwide and may show up in your home or business, potentially posing a health risk to humans, especially children. The adults are usually 1/2 to 5/8 inches long, tan in color, and with longitudinal stripes running along their back.

They can be introduced in cardboard boxes, food items or appliances. They like living conditions such as cracks and crevices and will contaminate and destroy stored food products. It is important to maintain food preparation areas in a clean and serviceable condition, this removes possible food sources.

Spraying or “bombing” for roaches is very ineffective; it will simply scatter the insects into other areas or adjacent units in apartments. Good Earth Pest Company employs effective methods to deal with roaches that do not involve the application of materials into your living space or place of work. We use a combination of bait lures and Insect Growth Regulators to gain control and eliminate the infestation.

Another variety of cockroaches here in Oregon is the Oriental Cockroach. These are much different than the German Cockroach, living mostly outside on decaying vegetation such as leaf matter. They are bigger, from 1-1 ¼” in length and are much darker in color, sometimes almost black. If the exterior population gets high then they will wonder inside under doors, through vents, and areas that…
For clients who are on a Standard Insect Program or Premiere Insect Program, cockroach service is offered at no additional cost.
